We started our second session of the year off with an impasto-style painting. First, we looked at Van Gogh's sunflower paintings- thick paint with visible brush and palette knives strokes.
The kids mixed flour into a cup with tempera paint (a quarter cup paint with a teaspoon flour) to make thick paint, called impasto. Then they used palette knives, popsicle sticks and stiff brushes to paint on board.
The second project was plastellina. Some worked on boards to make reliefs, others made standing sculptures. Flowers, strawberries, people and abstract creations were the themes the kids chose to create with.
