KANDINSKY

This week, we made Kandinsky inspired paintings!

Here is the inspiration! Lots of geometric shapes and beautiful colors!

Here are the tools, rulers, CD's, moon cut shapes and pens.

Then, we used watercolors to paint in the shapes. The kids worked for a long time and were so absorbed!

PAPER SCULPTURES

So, at home, we have a new afternoon activity: Paper sculptures! I didn't think it would be such a big hit, but the kids (especially the 4 years old) are totally into cutting, creating shapes and the favorite is the use of tape!
Here are the simple ingredients:

These are after the third afternoon spent at the desk. I helped with showing how to fold "stairs", or create circles, by wrapping around a pen. There's a lot of imagination behind these creations, these are an airplane, an ocean, and much more...

At art class, we tried it for the first time this week. There was a lot of cutting, learning how to use tape, glue stick, and drawing on the pieces of paper, and very important, a lot of imagination: trees, grass, skies and sikukim, and even a self portrait.

Later, we did watercolor. There is something so calming to just paint without instructions... I wish I could still "paint like a child"!

FOSSILS WITH COFFEE DOUGH

Yes, we made fossils from coffee dough! This is a great twist to the regular playdough, and smells also very appealing to coffee lovers... the parents!
So here are the ingredients (I am always sorry I don't get to photograph all of the steps, but our activities are just too busy...):
1 cup of used coffee grounds (a lesson in recycling)
1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
1/2 cup cold coffee

Mix these all well to get a great dough to play with first. Then make little pressed balls and gently press in leaves, shells, flowers, or any nature items...
I put them in the oven so they could harden, they become like stones.

Here are the half baked through fossils.

Then we decorated take away boxes with collage material, magazine pages, tissue paper, stickers...

And then the parents and grandparents came to pick up their kids, but first wanted to participate in the project!

Ready to go home with a box and fossils!

THE WRAPPING PAPER PROJECT

So, after the holiday season, but always a good use, the wrapping paper project again...
Cut potatoes in half and with metal cookie cutters press into the potato. Then use a knive to cut slowly around the side of the potato (about 1cm deep) to reveal the shape.

Press the potato into white paint and stamp on wrapping paper.

Of course, the kids asked after a short time for brushes and more colors.

So, they ended up with paintings while I tried out the stars wrapping paper...

And here are two presents Anat made from Noga's wrapping paper at the art class!

LOTS OF PAINT

This week included a lot of painting! We did the classic version of tempera with brushes...

Then, we drew with crayons and painted over it with thinned black paint...

And, when there is still some energy left or the need to meditate with fingerpainting, there is space for that, too...
